COMPOSITE DRAWINGS

Composite drawings are the most common form of forensic art.  The primary reason for drawing a composite is to identify an unknown suspect of a crime.  These drawings can also be used in the process of eliminating suspects.  As an investigative tool, the composite drawing is usually an image of the face,  however, jewelry, tattoos, a birthmark or even a weapon can be depicted.  Practically any distinguishing element or object associated with the suspect can be drawn as additional visual information for the purpose of identification.

Many law enforcement agencies take advantage of the composite drawing as a valuable tool in the investigative process.  Exposure and circulation of a composite drawing  through the media and to other law enforcement agencies can greatly increase the chances of solving a case and in the apprehension of a suspect.
